ABOUT Architecture intouch

Architecture intouch (Ait) was established by Ross Newby in 1981 and provided Design and consent drawings for mainly clients in the Auckland area but has reached as far as Kaitaia in the North, Wellington in the South and Golden Bay in the South island. Most of the work involved was for new homes large and small as well as alterations and additions and from time to time commercial projects.  Ait still provides alterations and renovation as well as new home designs in the Auckland area and we are currently working with builders out of Auckland for new home designs.
Ait has always provided diverse design styles as required by clients and we are completely at home with many different Architectural styles.  In the past we have ranged from villas to bungalows, contemporary to Tudor and even Spanish style when it was in vogue. Ait’s design forte is in ultra modern and minimalist designs and even has examples of this type of design created back in the late 90’s for a client in Waiatarua. This design in our opinion, still competes today with this modernistic style of design.

What sets Ait apart from others designers is the varied experiences in different areas of the construction industry.  Ross Newby has been involved, with 20 storey office blocks in downtown Auckland working for Peddle Thorp Architects, pre-cutting and pre-nailing houses both in the office preparing shop drawings and in the factory using saws and nail guns and gained valuable experience designing structural beams and footings for houses and alterations for an Auckland based structural Engineer.  Structural engineering plays a vital role in building and building consents but is not part of the Architectural designers roll itself.

Finally, managing a 10 man jump form team at 1 Hobson St, constructing a 20 storey concrete lift shaft and stairwell using form work that was hung of the side of the previously poured wall (jumpform) which sometimes was 7 floors above the rest of the building, an invigorating experience to say the least and it came with excellent views of the Waitemata harbour.

In more recent times building has become more and more legal and owners need a designer who can also help with construction issues as well as guiding them in there obligations that the N.Z. Building Act forces on every building owner. When choosing a designer, a client truly needs to consider that their chosen designer will be a part of their team and available if necessary from building consent to code compliance. The Building Act has also brought about a lot of issues with existing building that have been built to some extent or another illegally.  Ait have successfully provided drawings and support to these owners and has achieved for them a Certificate of Acceptance from Council and in some instances a full building consent being issued while avoiding fines.

So if you are requiring consent drawings or simply wanting to investigate some possibilities, Ait have probably already done something very similar and have never been refused a building consent.  In addition to building consent drawings, Ait have also been 100% successful in obtaining Resource Consents although with the Unitary Plan now in place this is a whole new ball game. Whatever your design and drawing needs are, you can always call Ait for a friendly chat which hopefully can help you in your quest.
